Energy Design Guidelines for High Performance Schools: Hot and Dry Climates.

Web Abstract:
This guide contains recommendations for designing high performance, energy efficient schools located in hot and dry climates. A high performance checklist for designers is included along with several case studies of projects that successfully demonstrated high performance design solutions for hot and dry climates. The guide's 10 sections scrutinize the following key interrelated components of high performance school design: site design; daylighting and windows; energy-efficient building shell; lighting and electrical systems; mechanical and ventilation systems; renewable energy systems; water conservation; recycling systems and waste management; transportation; and resource-efficient building products. The Phoenix, Arizona, climate was used as the model for these recommendations. Resources for additional information conclude the document.
