NEHRP/PUC Recommended Future Issues and Research Needs (September, 2021)
As part of its efforts to regularly update the NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions for New Buildings and Other Structures, the Building Seismic Safety Council (BSSC) is charged by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to identify and recommend issues to be addressed and research needed to advance the state of the art of earthquake-resistant design and to serve as the basis for future refinement of the Provisions.

The National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) Recommended Seismic Provisions for New Buildings and Other Structures is a series of publications developed by the BSSC and published by FEMA. The first edition was published in 1985, with later editions in 1988, 1991, 1994, 1997, 2000, 2003, 2009 and 2015.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reports there were more than 1,200 tornadoes in 2020, leading to the highest tornado death rate in almost a decade. A deadly tornado outbreak affected the Southeastern United States on Easter Sunday and Monday, causing 32 fatalities.
